Getting Swept Up in My Stories of Passion and Danger
I fell in love with the adventures of
reading while I was in primary school. These days I read widely in all genres,
especially mystery, thriller, and historical fiction. Of course, that led to my love for writing. And now, I enjoy writing and self-publishing my own stories in the romantic suspense genre.
My writing life started . . .
with technical and business consultant marketing, but my love for writing fiction kept gnawing at me.
The contest that started it all!
In what turned out to be a life-changing event, my short story, Fire Drill, was a finalist in the Spring’s Gentle Rain – Anthology of Creative Writing Canadian Poetry Institute contest. And for the first time, my very first fiction piece was published. I decided right then and there that I would write more and self-publish my work.
My debut novel hits the shelves
Three years and numerous drafts later, I expanded my short story into a full-length book that became my debut novel. In the fall of 2018, I published Torn: A Forensic Romance. Murder, betrayal, longing, and hard choices are the backdrop to this love story crackling with sexual tension. And wow…the response from readers was incredible.
Returning to my hometown to promote my debut novel was one of the most memorable trips of my life and a dream come true.
Torn quickly won over readers, and shortly after its publishing date, I was invited to appear on television by the popular morning show, Good Morning Barbados. I will not lie; I was so nervous! But after my interview aired, book sales shot through the roof, and I was a top-selling author in Barbados. A few hours after the show, I attended my first book signing, and the bookstore sold every copy! Torn was also presented to Dr. Allyson Leacock, Chair of the Barbados Broadcasting Authority.
Twist of Fate becomes my second romantic suspense
Flying high on the success of Torn, it was time to get back to the writing room and produce my next romantic suspense in short stories, Twist of Fate. Of course, there’s always love and passion, but I wanted to go deeper and write about the things that scare and fascinate me. If you’ve experienced the fear of loss and the choices you make to avoid it, you’ll know what I’m talking about! And you’ll probably love the short story, too.
