Do you remember your first romantic suspense novel?
The feisty, determined and capable heroine who is too busy chasing her goal to realize how much trouble shadows her? Then in comes the mysterious, all masculine, but flawed male hero.
Sweet!
My grandmother was an avid reader. She was the first person who drew toddler me to the excitement between the pages of books like, The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne.
But the romantic suspense novels I started reading much later were definite game changers. I met thrills and adventures of a different sort: love, danger, mystery and sexy all rolled into one beautifully-told story.
New Release
Remember that flawed hero? Well, in my new romantic suspense short story Twist of Fate, Lieutenant-Colonel Gibson Styles, a Canadian soldier and trauma surgeon, has just endured the most horrific experience of his life— a convicted rapist escapes from a prison transport and kidnaps his pregnant girlfriend, Madison.
Gibson musters every ounce of his military training, and with help from his best friend, an air force pilot, he rescues the love of his life. But Madison is seven months pregnant, and the blood staining her pants points to internal injuries Gibson is too scared to think about.
Getting Madison to the emergency room is only the beginning. Gibson needs faith and nerves of steel to keep his sanity through the surgery that may or may not save his family.
In Gibson’s own words…
The situation was getting away from me. I stood there in my army fatigues, my feet spread, and my hands locked behind my back. I was sending a clear message, but this nurse refused to read my nonverbal cues.
She had to know how desperate I had become since I took Detective Henderson’s call. I couldn’t leave Madison and our baby again. Not under any circumstances.
“I’ll stay out of your way,” I said. “I’m her…” I paused unable to finish that sentence. Her what? What was I to Madison? She refused to marry me.
