November is halfway through, and in Toronto, the weather is leaning towards winter. It’s a beautiful time, with damp air and the striking reds of Japanese maples still holding strong.
But something unexpected happened last weekend… ????️????
I chatted with a screenwriter student who’s already conquered her first film set! The tales she shared about morning shoots and designing sets had me captivated. With a cast and crew hundreds strong—including her dad, who might just end up famous on IMDB!—her experience was both fascinating and terrifying. ????
But here’s where things get really suspenseful. She spoke about the intense journey of getting a script produced: from pitching endlessly to hoping a studio brings it to life. It sounded more hair-raising than the tightest plot I’ve ever written!
It made me grateful to stick to writing novels, where the drama lives on the page and not in nerve-wracking pitches. I couldn’t help but applaud her courage. Writing and pursuing film-making is no easy feat. Hats off to all screenwriters—students or professionals!
I’m left wondering, though… What if one of my suspense-filled books became a film? Would the plot twists still chill you to the bone, or would the popcorn be the real thrill?
